OVERVIEW OF THE PLAYER CONTRACTS:
Each year prior to the draft we will now have player contract extensions on all players.  The base salary for a player picked up is $10,000.  Every extension will add an additional $13,501 that will be added to the player's salary.  The salary carries over to any team that the player is traded too.  Prior to the draft, unsigning the player will not result in a penalty, whereas afterward the penalty will be 2/3 of the original salary owed and will go against the cap.

The salary cab is set at $1,126,559 for each team.  This pretty much allows a team to hold 59 "contract extensions" at one time.  The stacking effect of the salaries can restrict movement in free agency or when there are injuries as that money still counts against you.  For a more prominent example of how the salary can stack over the years here is a table.
